Friends of Geography
Established in 1987 , Friends of Geography provides collegial contact and support with the UCLA Department
of Geography.

In supporting the UCLA Department of Geography, FOG:
-
Sponsors a Yearly Undergraduate Scholarship;
-
Supports student and faculty research, instructional aid, and extra mural programs;
-
Helps purchase much needed equipment;
-
Hosts a UCLA Department Reception at the National AAG Conference.
Recently, FOG was instrumental in:
-
Remodeling the Geography Department Library,
-
Establishing an Endowed Graduate Student Scholarship Fund,
-
Establishing an Endowed Undergraduate Student Scholarship
Friends of Geography has played an important role in keeping UCLA Geography one of the preeminent programs
in the world.
Benefits include:
-
Two seats at the the annual Fall Geography Luncheon held at the UCLA Faculty Center;
-
A Subscription to the FOG HORN Newsletter, produced twice a year;
-
Weekly E-Mail announcements about the department Tod Spieker Colloquium Series;
-
Invitation to the Department Annual Alexander von Humboldt Lecture;
-
Invitation to special Department related events and other activities that keep members abreast of the
latest developments at UCLA and in the discipline.
The annual luncheon is a particularly enjoyable event that allows FOG members to socialize, meet past and
present faculty members, and hear first hand about the latest developments in issues such as the economy,
globalization, culture, and the environment from some of the world’s leading geographers.
Reestablish your connection with UCLA Geography, and commit yourself to supporting the department by
establishing your membership with FOG.
Your contribution is especially important now. The Geography Department and the entire UC system are facing
tough years ahead due to the fiscal conditions of the State of California. The department budget already is
stretched thin simply maintaining classrooms and offices, and no one wants students to suffer for the lack
of financial resources.
Your support of the Friends of Geography will help the department weather the upcoming fiscal storm with both
general discretionary and targeted funds.
